Opinel Viroblock N.7: The Essential French Knife

You won't be able to live without it. The great classic of French knives, designed in 1890 by Joseph Opinel, the N°07 Carbon Steel offers excellent cutting quality. Its beech wood handle fits perfectly in the hand, making it more comfortable to use. The Virobloc safety ring allows the user to work without risks. Technical Features

• Blade Length: 8 cm
• XC90 Carbon Steel: Opinel carbon steel is a non-alloy steel with a high carbon content, which allows for excellent hardness from the heat treatment process, ensuring perfect edge retention, high wear resistance, and easy re-sharpening. However, since carbon steel has low resistance to corrosion from moisture, it requires precautions for use: do not leave the knife in a humid environment, especially in the dishwasher, clean the blade with an oiled cloth after use, and oil it frequently like the joint.
• Handle: Beech is the most commonly used wood for making Opinel handles. Sourced from French plantations, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. With a uniform appearance, its light color ranges from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous dark streaks. The handle is varnished to be effectively protected from dirt and moisture.
• Handle Length: 10 cm
• Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is present on all folding knives starting from N°06. Carved from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety of use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety of transport).
